Most League clubs were involved in the Cwpan Ceredigion Second Round over the weekend with there being a mixed bag of results.
It was a disappointing afternoon for Aberporth as they conceded five without reply against Bont. After a fairly even start the game turned for the homesters when keeper Ryan Banks broke his wrist in saving a Michael Rowe shot. To make matters worse Gwynfryn Hughes opened the visitors account from the ensuing corner. He added a second after the turnaround while a goal each from Michael Rowe, Trevor Jenkins and Rhydian Jenkins rounded off a comfortable win for the visitors. Cardigan made heavy weather of a single goal win over Machynlleth. The game should have been settled in the first half only for Peter Edwards, Justin Evans and Ben Davies to squander easy chances. Both the weather and the quality of the football deteriorated after the interval but a lone strike from Liam George eventually took the home side into the next round. Felinfach went down in a twelve goal extravaganza against Llanilar for whom both Richard Pugh and Rhys Morgan scored hat-tricks. Martin Davies also grabbed a couple while for Felinfach in reply both Mark Chamberlain and Mark Evans netted two apiece. In a disappointing game Aberaeron were taken to penalties by UWA Reserves. For the most part neither side was able to impress and it was not until five minutes from the end that the deadlock was broken when Tom Mckay seemed to have settled the issue for the students when he turned in from a corner. Not to be outdone however, the visitors struck back in the final minute when Simon Bray netted from a distance to take the game into extra time. Despite the extra half hour the score remained level thus necessitating the dreaded penalty shoot out. After ten spot kicks the scores were still level at two apiece before Aeron keeper Barry Edwards saved the College's sixth penalty and then popped up at the other end to score to give his side victory. Midway through the first half Llanybydder seemed to be cruising to a comfortable win over Talybont after Luke Lovell had given them a two goal lead. The visitors came back strongly and gained the initiative with goals from Darren Jenkins, Stephen Evans, Rob Southgate and James Fox. Hard though they tried the only further consolation for the home side was a late Shane Lovell effort. Maesglas returned victorious from their game against Aberystwyth Town Thirds with goals from Dean Winney and Phil Furney, who scored twice, sealing their win. Stan Richards replied for the homesters. The long journey to Dolgellau proved to be a fruitless one for Dewi Stars as goals from David Edwards and Iwan Codgiss dumped them out of the cup. In the other games played there were good away wins for Ffostrasol and St Dogmaels at Crannog and Llanon while Lampeter overwhelmed Bargod. Llanboidy had a walkover against Newcastle Emlyn." |
